CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - After nearly a week off, the North Carolina men's soccer team plays its final match before the start of Atlantic Coast Conference play against Old Dominion, ranked No. 7 in last week's NSCAA Top 25 Poll, at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Norfolk, Va.
Both teams should enter the match well rested, as the Tar Heels (1-2-2) tied UNC Wilmington, 0-0, in their last action on September 15. The Monarchs (4-0-0), whose match at UMBC was cancelled Saturday due to rain, have not played since September 12.
Sophomores Corey Ashe and Jamie Watson, as well as freshman Dax McCarty each have two goals on the season to lead the Tar Heel offense. In his first start of the year, sophomore goalkeeper Justin Hughes recorded the team's first shutout of the season against UNCW.
Old Dominion is led by senior Kevon Harris, who has three goals and two assists on the young season.
Having won three straight against the Monarchs, Carolina leads the all-time series with ODU, 4-2-1. The Tar Heels won the last meeting, 2-0, in Chapel Hill in 2001.
Following Tuesday's action, UNC opens ACC play versus Virginia at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fetzer Field.
