Trusty Named Hardee's Student-Athlete Of The Week

Olivia Trusty won two individual apparatus events and the all-around competition to lead the UNC gymnastics team to a win over William and Mary and is the Hardee's Carolina Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 17-23. Trusty, a senior from Baltimore, Md., posted a score of 39.25, her highest total in the Tar Heels' two meets so far this season. She repeated a win on floor exercise and finished in a three-way tie for first place on uneven bars. Trusty was in the top five on her remaining events with a third-place finish on vault and a tie for fifth on balance beam. Carolina defeated William & Mary for the second time this season, 195.10-189.30, to improve its record to 7-0.

Despite falling to Virginia 179-119, North Carolina received an outstanding effort from junior Gia Santoro in the meet against the Cavaliers. Santoro swept both diving events in the meet. She had a score of 267.68 points to win the one-meter event and then she had her season high score of 283.58 on the three-meter board to win that event as well.

Raian Luchici swept his singles matches to lead the No. 18 Tar Heels to season-opening wins over Davidson 7-0 and North Carolina A&T 7-0 on January 22. Luchici, ranked No. 65 nationally in singles, defeated Donald Miles at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1 in the win over the Wildcats and then had a 6-0, 6-0 win over the Aggies' Vytas Hawley. Luchici only played doubles in the match against Davidson, combining with Sebastian Guejman, to beat Davidson's John olton and Flavia Simihaian at No. 2 by an 8-1 score.

Shaw went 2-0 over the weekend as the Tar Heels defeated Virginia and fell to No. 7 Nebraska at home. Friday night, Shaw opened the 25-12 win over the Cavaliers with a 7-5 victory over Anthony Burke. He followed Saturday with a 16-4 major decision over Nebraska's Jeremy Emerson, which gave the Tar Heels a 4-0 lead in the match before losing 34-7. Shaw is now 16-12 this season, 5-1 in dual matches and 2-0 in ACC action.
TRACK AND FIELD
Erin Donohue

Erin Donohue won two events at this weekend's Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn., in her first meet since helping lead the women's cross country team to a 10th-place NCAA finish. Donohue won the 800 meters on Friday, besting teammate Georgia Kloss with a time of 2:10.11. She then triumphed in the mile run a day later, finishing in 4:47.36.
