Carolina Rebounds With Win At Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --- Senior outside hitter Dani Nyenhuis had 20 kills and 15 digs, while senior libero Taylor Rayfield had 31 digs to lead the University of North Carolina volleyball team to a four-game win over Boston College Sunday afternoon, 30-20, 31-33, 30-27, 30-28. Senior outside hitter Camilla Ihenetu added 18 kills for the Tar Heels (14-7, 9-2 ACC), while Abigail Hasebroock led BC (6-15, 1-11 ACC) with 21 kills.
Carolina ran away with game one, cruising to a 30-20 win. The Tar Heels led by as many as 11 at 22-11 before the Eagles won six straight points to draw within five at 22-17. But BC would get no closer, as Nyenhuis and sophomore middle Christie Clark teamed up for a block to take the game.
Game two was close throughout and neither team led by more than four in the frame. UNC had a game point at 29-28, but Lia Krautmanis put down a kill for a sideout to extend the game. After a Nyenhuis kill made it 31-all, BC's Kelsey Johnson recorded two straight kills to secure the game, 33-31.
The Tar Heels played with the lead for most of the third game. After a four point Carolina run made it 21-13, BC responded with its own 4-0 run. The Eagles would get within two at 28-26, but kills by Clark and junior outside hitter Meg Eckert gave the Tar Heels a 2-1 lead in the match and a 30-27 win.
Game four was the closest of the match, as both teams had the lead in the late stages. The game was tied fifeen times, the last coming at 27-all after Nyenhuis and junior middle Amy Beaver teamed up for a block of Hasebroock. Beaver then helped put away the match, recording another block and a kill on match point, as the Tar Heels won the clincher, 30-28.
Both squads blocked well with Carolina recording 15 team blocks to 12 for Boston College.
Carolina will conclude its road trip next weekend. The Tar Heels travel to Charlottesville, Va., to face Virginia Friday night at 7, then proceed to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech Saturday night at 6.
