The UNC Women's Golf Team Hosts The Lady Tar Heel Invitational

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team will play host to the Lady Tar Heel Invitational October 7-9 at UNC Finley Golf Course, which features a par 72, 6,285-yard layout. There will be a shotgun start all three days, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. The public is invited to attend and there is no admission fee.
This is the 30th consecutive year the Lady Tar Heel Invitational has been played. The past five years (2000-2004) it was known as the Franklin Street Partners Invitational.
The field of 18 teams includes nine which are ranked in the top 25 in Golfstat's latest rankings. In addition to host North Carolina which will field two teams, the field includes top-ranked Duke, Auburn (#3), Tennessee (#6), Ohio State (#9), Oklahoma State (#11), LSU (#17), Texas (#19), Virginia (#22), Tulsa (#23), Florida State, Kentucky, NC State, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
"We are thrilled about hosting one of the premier events in college golf," says North Carolina head coach Sally Austin. "This year's field is certainly one of the best, if not the best, in the east and one of the best in the country. We are hosting some of the nation's top teams and we hope people will come out to watch some great college golf. Our team is excited about the challenge and is looking forward to the competition."
Carolina has played in two tournaments so far this fall. The Tar Heels were the runners-up at the Wildcat Fall Invitational played last weekend in Lexington, Ky., and they finished in eighth place at the Cougar Classic played Sept. 11-12 in Hanahan, S.C. Four Tar Heels placed in the top 25 at the Wildcat Invitational. Junior Katie Miller, from Jeannette, Pa., tied for second place while freshman Lauren Hunt, from Little River, S.C., tied for 10th place, Laura Caniff, a sophomore from Russell, Ky., tied for 16th and Ann Laney, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., tied for 23rd place. Two Tar Heels posted top 25 finishes at the Cougar Classic as Miller tied for 15th place and Laney tied for 22nd.
