Jessica Young, a senior outfielder on the University of North Carolina softball team, was selected fourth in a draft conducted by the Harlem Diamonds, the organization announced recently. Young will join the traveling team this summer. According to the team's website, the Diamonds play benefit games for community, youth and social service organizations.
Jessica's sister Marissa is the team's player/coach. "I can't imagine anything more memorable than being able to tour the country with my sister this summer," Marissa Young said.
"I think that being a member of the Harlem Diamonds will allow Jessica to continue her strong commitment to community service," Carolina head coach Donna J. Papa said. "Jess has done a great job of coordinating all of our community outreach activities, and this will be a neat way to combine the opportunity to play softball and reach out to communities at the same time. I think that she will represent both the Diamonds and Carolina well."
