CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A trio of freshmen continued to lead the Carolina women's golf team during round two of the ACC Championship. Ann Laney remained in the top ten at number seven after another solid round of 79. She was joined in the top 25 by Laura Caniff who bettered her day one 83 with a second round 80. Collete Lowe rounded out the trio with an 84.
Duke used their second round score of 594 to take total control of the championship. Their three-over combined score was nineteen strokes better than any other team in round two. They opened up a thirty-four stroke lead on second place Wake Forest and a fifty-nine stroke lead on the Tar Heels who are competing for a coveted point in the ongoing Carlyle Cup. The University of Virginia, North Carolina State, and Miami closed out the top five of the tournament.
Individually, Duke also took control of the championship with five golfers in the top seven. Duke's Anna Grzebien and Elizabeth Janangelo finished in a tie for first at four-over par, while their teammates Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh and Brittany Lang are tied for third at five-over par. Miami's Tina Miller was the only non-Blue Devil member of the top five.
Carolina sophomore Katie Miller withdrew from the round with an undisclosed injury. Her status is day-to-day.
