TAMPA, Fla. - North Carolina sophomore midfielder Dax McCarty, a member of Ajax Orlando this summer, was named to the Premier Development League All-Southern Conference team, United Soccer Leagues announced Monday.

In 10 games with Ajax Orlando, McCarty scored one goal and assisted on two others from the midfield. He also played this summer with the U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team, which captured the 2005 Milk Cup in Northern Ireland August 5.

As a freshman with the Tar Heels last season, McCarty played in all 21 games and tallied seven points on two goals and three assists. Following a pair of exhibition matches, Carolina opens the 2005 season against VCU and Richmond at the Rams' Alltel/Nike Classic, September 9 and 11, respectively.
