Ashe Named Carolina Performer of the Week

Corey Ashe scored the only goal in Carolina's 1-0 win over Rutgers and added the insurance goal in Sunday's 2-0 shutout over South Carolina and is the Tar Heel Performer of the Week for September 5-11, 2005.
Ashe, a junior forward from Virginia Beach, Va., scored in the ninth minute of play on an assist from Scott Campbell for his second straight game-winning goal. Sunday, he put the match away against South Carolina with a rebound goal in the 68th minute. Ashe, who leads the Tar Heels with three goals this season, has scored in three straight games.

Dawson played key roles on offense and defense as North Carolina (6-0) earned shutout wins in all three games last week. The Tar Heels beat James Madison 1-0 at home on Monday, won 1-0 at Temple on Saturday and beat Monmouth 7-0 in Philadelphia on Sunday.
Dawson had the game-winner against Temple and added another goal and an assist against Monmouth. The 2004 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, she also is a mainstay of the Tar Heel defense, which has five shutouts in this season's six games.
Dawson and classmate Laree Beans will miss the Tar Heels' next three games while competing as part of the U.S. team at the Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile.

Heather O'Reilly helped lead the Carolina women's soccer team to a 2-0 record and tournament championship in the City by the Bay Classic in San Francisco, Calif. O'Reilly led the Classic in scoring with 8 total points coming on three goals and two assists. She scored two goals and assisted on another in Carolina's 6-1 victory over the University of San Francisco Friday. She then added a goal and another assist Sunday in the team's 4-0 win against No. 23 Stanford. O'Reilly currently leads the nation's No. 2 ranked team with eight goals and 13 points.
