CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Fresh off Wednesday's dramatic tie at NC State, second-ranked North Carolina (4-0-1) will host No. 22 Old Dominion (3-0-1) at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fetzer Field in a meeting of two of the nation's two remaining unbeaten teams.
The Tar Heels hold a 4-3-1 lead in the all-time series and won three straight versus ODU before last year's 3-2 loss in Norfolk. Carolina held a 2-0 lead with 23 minutes remaining but allowed three unanswered goals to the No. 6 Monarchs in 2004.
This season, Carolina has allowed just two goals in five matches for a 0.38 team goals against average. Senior Ford Williams has played all 470 minutes in goal. Last time out, junior Ben Hunter scored twice in the tie with NC State. Freshman midfielder Scott Campbell leads the team with seven points on two goals and three assists, while junior forward Corey Ashe has a team-best three goals.
For ODU, Trevor Banks leads the way with three goals, while Brian Cvilikas has scored twice. John Connelly has been in goal all season and owns a 0.95 goals against average. The Monarchs have already faced a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, beating NC State 2-1 on September 1 and playing Clemson to a scoreless draw September 11. Sunday's match will be the first away from home for Old Dominion.
Following Sunday's match, the Tar Heels return to action against Clemson at Fetzer Field Friday, September 23 at 7 p.m.
