Sophomores Showcase Talent at Wolfpack Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. - Some of Carolina's young talent was on display this past weekend as the Tar Heels sent three players to the Residence Inn North Wolfpack Invitational at the Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium.
Sophomore Tristan Heinrich, taking part in his first tournament of the year, earned two singles wins and teamed with American University freshman Mark Doumba to win two doubles matches. Heinrich defeated American University's Andrew Singer 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 and Elon's Austin Fenn 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals of the Flight A2 singles bracket before falling to David Rozek of NC State 2-6, 6-0, 6-3.
Heinrich and Doumba defeated a pair of doubles teams from Campbell University, taking out Carlos Campo and Marc Sifre as well as the team of Ryan Mills and Artoym Starkov for their two wins.
Joining Heinrich at the tournament were fellow sophomores Will Plyler and Jeff Schroeder. Plyler and Schroeder joined together in doubles play to defeat UNC Greensboro's team of Marc Ladouceur and Ryan Lewis 8-4.
In singles competition, Plyler posted a victory over Henrik Almstrom of High Point University, defeating him 6-3, 6-2. Schroeder also earned a victory, defeating American University's Daniel Frid 6-1, 7-5.
The Tar Heels will host their first tournament this weekend at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The tournament will begin Friday.
