CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- The University of North Carolina softball team will open its fall schedule this Sunday with an exhibition game against the Charlotte 49ers at Central Cabarrus High School in Concord, N.C. The game, set to begin at 3 p.m., will be a homecoming for two former Vikings - senior pitcher Crystal Cox and junior catcher Theresa Nicholas. Senior infielder Julia Bove and sophomore infielder Cassie Palmer are also natives of the area.
The day will also feature a free softball clinic after the game. Members of both teams will conduct the clinic at the Central Cabarrus field. For those interested in attending either the game or the clinic, the address for CCHS is 505 Highway 49 South in Concord. The Tar Heels will be available for autographs after the game as well.
Central Cabarrus is one of the top softball schools in the nation, having won back-to-back 4A state championships.
The Tar Heels and 49ers will meet in the regular season in Charlotte for a non-conference doubleheader on Feb. 15.
