GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's David Boole was tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week Monday after leading the Tar Heels to a pair of victories at the Alltel/Nike Classic in Richmond, Va., to open the 2005 season.
Starting at the outside back position for the first time in 2005, Boole assisted on three of North Carolina's four goals en route to wins over No. 11 Virginia Commonwealth and Richmond. The junior defender also helped lead a defense that posted back-to-back shutouts on the weekend and combined to allow just two shots on goal in the two matches.
In Friday's game at VCU, Boole assisted on the game-winner in the 51st minute as he found Dax McCarty for the goal in the Tar Heels 1-0 victory. The Raleigh, N.C., native picked up right where he left off against Richmond, posting a pair of assists including the game-winner in the fifth minute of action. From the right flank, Boole sent a cross into Corey Ashe who headed the ball into the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead. The Tar Heels would tack on two more as they downed the Spiders 3-0.
Boole and the Tar Heels are back in action this weekend as they host Rutgers and South Carolina on Friday and Sunday, respectively, at the Carolina Nike Classic.
