Carolina's Luchici Shares ACC Men's Tennis Player Of The Week Accolade

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Raian Luchici and NC State's William Noblitt both helped their respective teams to hot starts on the season, and share the first Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week award of the 2006 spring season.
Luchici, ranked No. 5 in singles play, helped the No. 31 Tar Heels post 7-0 wins over Campbell and Elon on Saturday to open the season. Against the Camels, Luchici posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Florent Wilpotte at No. 1 singles. Teaming with Brad Pomeroy at No. 1 doubles, the nation's top-ranked doubles duo defeated Campbell's Wilpotte and Gabriel Delarue, 8-2. Against Elon later in the day, Luchici, a senior from Timisoara, Romania, topped Damon Gooch in singles action, 6-2, 6-0, and again teamed with Pomeroy to take an 8-6 win over Gooch and Austin Fenn in doubles play.
Noblitt helped the No. 45 Wolfpack post a 3-0 record in the opening week of the season. The Shelby, N.C., junior posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over High Point's Jack Notton at No. 3 singles in a 7-0 win on Saturday, and later turned in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kern Phillip at No. 2 singles in NC State's 7-0 win over Gardner-Webb. Noblitt teamed with Ben Zink to earn an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles against High Point, and later posted an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles against North Carolina A&T on Saturday evening.
North Carolina (2-0) will host No. 51 Northwestern on Friday, Jan. 27, while NC State (3-0) will host American on Saturday, Jan. 28.
