Tar Heels Rated Third In Final NCAA RPI

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's soccer team was ranked third in the final NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), which was released following the 2005 season. The Tar Heels, who finished with a 17-4-3 overall record, were one of eight Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked in the top 16 of the RPI.
National champion Maryland occupied the top spot, followed by Carolina at No. 3 and Duke at No. 5. College Cup participant Clemson was ninth, while Wake Forest (11th), NC State (13th), Virginia (14th) and Virginia Tech (16th) were rated in the top 16.
A record eight ACC squads reached the 48-team NCAA field. Carolina advanced to the quarterfinal round, as did Clemson and Maryland.
