Carolina Falls to Ninth Place After Second Round At Mercedes-Benz Collegiate

KNOXVILLE, TENN. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team is in ninth place after the first round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship. The Tar Heels fired at 27-over-par 311 and slipped into ninth place, 20 strokes off the leader, Auburn.
Carolina sophomore Lauren Hunt from Little River, S.C. shot a five-over 76 and is currently leading the Tar Heels. She is tied for 21st in the tournament, 10 strokes off the lead. One stroke behind her is freshman Kate Thomas who posted a 78 and is tied for 26th place. Sophomore Sydney Crane from Jamestown, N.C. fired an 80 and is in third place on the team. Kate Miller, the lone senior on the team, from Jeannette, Pa. carded a 77 and is tied for 39th and junior Ann Laney from Charlotte, N.C. shot an 80 and is in 51st place.
Lacey Jones, from Southern Methodist, fired a two-over 73 to hold onto the individual lead. Nicole Hage from Auburn continued to play well, moving into 2nd place firing a 72. Caroline Hedwall playing for the Swedish Jr. National Team carded even par, a 71, and is currently in third place. Auburn stayed atop the leader board, shooting a seventeen-over 301. However, Georgia narrowed the gap to 4 by shooting a 296. Tennessee continued to play consistently, shooting their second straight 298, landing them in 3rd. Arkansas and the Swedish Jr. Nationals round out the top five, 4th and 5th respectively.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at Cherokee Country Club which features a par 71, 5,932-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com
