Chapel Hill, N.C. - Benjamin Carlotti defeated number one seed Arnaud Lecloerec to advance to the ITA Mideast Region Championship singles semifinals at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Carlotti is the first Tar Heel to advance this far in the ITA Regionals since Nicholas Monroe and Trystan Meniane each reached the semifinals in 2003.
The singles semifinals will begin at 9:30 a.m. indoors, followed by the finals. Carlotti will face unseeded Henrique Cancado of Old Dominion. Carlotti defeated Wake Forest's Cory Parr 7-6(3), 6-1 in the round of 16 Saturday morning. In the quarterfinals, Lecloerec captured the first set in a tiebreak, before Carlotti opened the first set with a break of serve and a service hold to go up 2-0. At that point, Lecloerec retired with a pulled back muscle.
In the doubles quarterfinals played Saturday afternoon, Virginia's Lee Singer and Treat Huey ousted Lenny Gullan and David Stone 8-6.
