UNC Doubles Tandem Wins At All-American Championships

TULSA, OKLA. - Tar Heel juniors Lenny Gullan and David Stone won their fourth straight match in the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships Thursday night at the University of Tulsa, advancing to the round of 16 in the main draw of doubles. Earlier in the day junior Benjamin Carlotti won his fourth straight match of the tournament in the opening round of singles in the main draw before falling in the second round to finish the tournament with a 4-1 singles mark.
The All-American Championships are sponsored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and are considered one of the ITA's four grand slam events of the collegiate season.
Carlotti, who had won three matches in the qualifying singles phase of the championships, beat automatic qualifier Bojan Szumanski of Texas Tech 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the main draw Thursday morning. Carlotti was eliminated in the round of 32 Thursday afternoon by No. 9 seed Luis Flores of Georgia 6-2, 7-5.
Gullan and Stone also won three matches in qualifying to earn their way into the main draw. Tonight they whipped automatic qualifiers David Galic and Michael Kokta of Baylor 8-4.
Gullan and Stone will play Adam Hubble and Ben Rogers of Tennessee Friday at 1 p.m. Hubble and Rogers upset a seeded team from Oklahoma State Thursday.
