LOOMSBURG, PA. - University of North Carolina assistant softball coach Janelle Breneman was inducted into the Bloomsburg University Athletic Hall of Fame Friday, joining five fellow Bloomsburg graduates in the 25th class to be given such honorable distinction.
Breneman's exploits on the softball field during her time at Bloomsburg earned her the illustrious recognition, which places her among the best 115 athletes, coaches and administrators who grace the school's Hall.
A four-year starter for the Huskies at shortstop, Breneman earned All-America honors her senior year. She was also a three time All-PSAC selection and was twice named All-Region. At the time of her graduation, she was third on the school's all-time hit list with 198 (now 11th), third in RBI with 112 (now 8th), and second in runs scored with 145 (now 8th).
After graduating in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in adult health/cardiac rehab, Breneman went on to play two seasons with the Georgia Pride of the Women's Professional Fastpitch Softball League, starting at shortstop and second base.
She later moved into coaching, working as both an assistant and head coach at East Stroudsburg, head coach at Bucknell - earning Patriot League Coach of the Year honors in 2004 - and is currently an assistant at North Carolina, where she works with the UNC infielders and oversees the program's camps and clinics.
