CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Fourteenth-seeded North Carolina will open play in the 2006 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship with a second round match-up with Old Dominion Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Fetzer Field. The Monarchs (13-5-2) advanced past Winthrop on penalty kicks Saturday to face the Tar Heels (11-5-3) for the third consecutive season.
Tickets for the game are available at TarHeelBlue.com and will be available for purchase at the gate at $8 for adults and $5 for children.
The winner of Wednesday's match will advance to face the winner between No. 3 seed SMU and UC Santa Barbara either Saturday or Sunday. The Mustangs (17-1-4) eliminated Carolina in last year's quarterfinal round.
The Tar Heels and Monarchs have met nine times with Carolina holding a 5-3-1 series lead. UNC posted a 2-1 win at home in 2005, while ODU scored a 3-2 victory over the Tar Heels in Norfolk, Va., in 2004.
