Carolina Postgame Notes vs. Florida Atlantic
December 19, 2006
Carolina's 47-point lead at the half is a school record. The previous largest was 43 (67-24) against Manhattan on Dec. 27, 1985, in Miami in the Orange Bowl Classic. UNC went on to win that game, 129-45, to set the school record for points and final margin of victory.
The 47-point lead was the largest in a game at the Smith Center. Carolina led The Citadel, 62-21, at the half on Feb. 19, 1991 (41-point lead), in a game the Tar Heels would win, 118-50.
The Tar Heels shot 74.1 percent from the floor in the first half, the highest percentage in a half since they shot 78.9 in the second half against NC State on Jan. 8, 2000.
Carolina shot 66.1 percent from the floor for the game. That is the highest percentage in a game since UNC shot 71.1 against NC State on Jan. 8, 2000.
The Tar Heels scored 65 points in the first half (a season high). That is the most points in a half (without overtime) since UNC scored 68 against George Mason on Dec. 7, 2003.
The Tar Heels allowed only 18 points in the first half, the fewest scored by an opponent since BYU also had 18 in the first half on Nov. 22, 2004 in Maui.
All five Tar Heel starters scored in double figures, the first time this year UNC accomplished the feat.
Ty Lawson had a season-high eight assists for the second consecutive game and has a 34 assist/8 turnover ratio in his five starts. Lawson also had four steals, the most by a Tar Heel this year.
Reyshawn Terry made 3 of 4 from three-point range and is 12 for his last 18 from three-point range in the last five games.
Tyler Hansbrough scored 20 points in just 19 minutes. That is the sixth time this year and 19th in his career he has scored 20 or more points.
Carolina had a season-high 23 assists tonight (previous was 21 vs. Sacred Heart).
