CHAPEL HILL -- The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team will open its 2006 regular season this weekend with a pair of home games at Fetzer Field. Carolina will host Temple on Friday at 5 p.m. and new Atlantic Coast Conference member Boston College on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission to both games is free.
Friday's game will mark the opening of the regular season for UNC, which co-hosted the annual South of the Border exhibition tournament on Feb. 12 with Duke. UNC was scheduled to open its season last weekend at Oregon, but the game was cancelled when the Tar Heels' flight to the West Coast was cancelled and the team could not make new travel arrangements to reach Oregon in time for the game.
Carolina returns nine starters and 23 letterwinners from last year's NCAA quarterfinalist squad that went 14-6, 2-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Tar Heels are led by All-America candidates Jess Allen, Jenn Cook, Kristen Hordy and Christina Juras.
