GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina juniors David Boole and Justin Hughes secured spots on the 2005 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men's Soccer Team announced Thursday by Commissioner John D. Swofford. All nine schools in the league competing in men's soccer are represented on the inaugural team.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Boole, who was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District III Team, owns a 3.467 cumulative GPA in business administration, while Hughes sports a 3.115 GPA in exercise and sport science.
A defender from Raleigh, Boole started all 24 games last season and tallied four assists. He was part of a backline that set a school record with 15 shutouts and posted an ACC-best 0.68 goals against average.
A goalkeeper from Wake Forest, Hughes posted seven shutouts in 12 games and allowed just six goals on the year. He made 27 saves, and the Tar Heels were 9-1-2 in Hughes' starts in goal.
Carolina reached the final eight of the NCAA tournament this past season, and returns 10 of 11 starters in 2006.
