UNC Tennis Team Achieves Highest Ranking In 14 Years

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Ranked eighth this week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the 2006 University of North Carolina men's tennis team has achieved its highest ranking since the 1992 season when the Tar Heels finished the season ranked No. 8 after reaching the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.
The Tar Heels are currently 17-1 with eight matches remaining on their schedule. Seventeen of UNC's 26 regular-season opponents are ranked in the Top 75 this week in the Fila/ITA rankings.
Carolina's only loss so far this season came at the hands of No. 25 Wake Forest. The Tar Heels already have wins over No. 14 Clemsom, No. 15 Virginia Commonwealth, No. 18 Notre Dame, No. 32 Georgia Tech, No. 39 San Diego, No. 56 South Carolina, No. 59 Northwestern, No. 68 Yale and No. 72 San Diego State.
UNC has remaining matches against No. 27 Florida State and No. 13 Miami this weekend on the road and then faces No. 36 NC State, No. 70 Maryland, No. 4 Duke, No. 11 Virginia and No. 49 Virginia Tech down the road.
