Bumpers Receives 2006 American Award

Courtney Bumpers was the recipient of the 2006 American Award. The award is voted upon by gymnastics coaches around the nation and goes to a senior gymnast in honor of academic and athletic achievements. Bumpers is the first Tar Heel and first Atlantic Coast Conference gymnast to receive the prestigious award.
With two national championships, Courtney Bumpers is Carolina's most successful gymnast. The two-time EAGL Gymnast of the Week this year helped lead the gymnastics team to a 17-8 record and the team's third EAGL Championship in the last five years. Bumpers had a very strong 2006 season, winning at least one event in nine of the ten regular season meets in which she competed in. She was a six-time all-around champion this season and named the 2006 EAGL Gymnast of the Year.
