Tar Heels Face Wolfpack For ACC Crown: No. 20 North Carolina (46-13, 13-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) will host its final ACC series of the season Thursday and Friday as the Tar Heels take on NC State (42-18, 12-6 ACC). With UNC one game ahead of the Wolfpack with three games to play, the series will decide the ACC regular season title. The Tar Heels have not been regular season champions since 1998, while NC State has never won the league. Carolina has won all six of its ACC series so far in 2006, taking two of three at Florida State, two of three at home against Maryland, sweeping three games at Virginia, winning two of three at Boston College, two of three at Virginia Tech and two of three at home against Georgia Tech.
Carolina Eyeing Wins Record: With Sunday's win over Georgia Tech, UNC improved to 46-13 and moved to within one win of the school record in that category. The record for wins is 47, set by the 2000 squad that finished 47-17. Carolina also has a winning percentage of .780, ahead of the school record mark of .760 (36-11-1) set in 1987. The Tar Heels have reached 40 wins on seven occasions - 1992, 1993, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004 and 2006.
Last Season Against NC State: The Wolfpack took three out of four games from the Tar Heels in 2005, including two of three in the series played in Raleigh. NC State also scored a 2-0 win in the ACC Tournament in College Park, Md.
Carolina In The Top 25: UNC is ranked 20th in the most recent USA Today/NFCA Top 25, the team's highest ranking to date. The Feb. 15 ranking was the first Tar Heel appearance in the USA Today/NFCA poll in program history. NC State is not ranked this week, but is second among other teams receiving votes.
