Carolina's Ann Laney Selected To Women's Golf All-ACC Team

Chapel Hill, N.C. - University of North Carolina golfer Ann Laney has been named to the 2006 All-Atlantic Coast Conference women's golf team as selected by a vote of the league's nine head coaches. This marks Laney's first year on the squad.
Laney, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., has carded three top-25 finishes this spring. She finished in third place at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic where she carded a two-over-par 218 total. She also tied for 11th place at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, tied for 24th at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic, tied for 26th at the ACC Championship and tied for 44th at the Bryan National Collegiate. Last fall, Laney posted two top-25 finishes, tying for 22nd place at the Cougar Classic and tying for 23rd at the Wildcat Fall Invitational.
Duke, this year's ACC championship team, placed five players on the squad of 12 - senior Elizabeth Janangelo, junior Anna Grzebien, sophomore Jennifer Pandolfi, and freshmen Amanda Blumenherst and Jennie Lee. Virginia and Wake Forest each placed two players on the squad. The Cavaliers were represented by junior Leah Wigger and sophomore Lauren Mielbrecht while the Demon Deacons' two selections were junior Amanda Goins and freshman Nannette Hill. The squad was rounded out by freshman Caroline Westrup from Florida State and junior Katie Stepanek from Maryland.
Duke's Blumenherst, the individual medalist at the ACC Championship, was named the ACC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Blue Devil head coach Dan Brooks from Duke received Coach of the Year accolades for the 10th time in his career.
Laney becomes the 11th Tar Heel in school history to garner All-ACC accolades and this marks the 18th time a Carolina player has been so honored.
