Bids: Potential host schools must submit bids to the NCAA for the right to host during the regional round of NCAA Tournament competition. Separate bids were submitted for the super-regional round. The NCAA requires a minimum bid of $50,000 to be considered for the regional round and $35,000 to be considered for the super-regional round. Carolina submitted bids for both rounds of competition.
National seeds: The eight best teams as chosen by the selection committee are awarded national seeds (and seeded 1 through 8). Those eight slots are coveted prizes, because the eight national seeds are "protected" from playing each other until the College World Series in Omaha. In other words, a team seeded eighth knows they won't have to face teams one through seven until a potential meeting in Omaha. National seeds almost always host in the super-regional round.
Selection process: The NCAA will announce host sites and the national seeds on Sunday, May 28, at 3:30 p.m. The rest of the bracket will be filled in on Monday, May 29, in a nationally televised selection show on ESPN at 12:30 p.m.
Regional: The NCAA divides the 64-team field into 16 regionals. Teams are seeded 1 through 4 within each regional--in most cases (but not all), the top seed hosts the regional. The double-elimination regionals are slated for June 2-5.
Super-regional: The 16 victors in the regionals are paired in eight super-regionals. Super-regionals are best two-of-three series, with each winner advancing to the College World Series. Super-regionals are scheduled for June 9-11 or June 10-12.
College World Series: Carolina has advanced to Omaha four times, but hasn't made a trip there since 1989. This year's World Series will be June 16-26.
Boshamer regional tickets: If Carolina is selected as a regional host site on Sunday, tickets will go on sale online almost immediately. Check TarHeelBlue.com after the announcement for more information. This website will be the best place to order your regional tickets, guarantee seats for the event, and avoid the long lines at the ticket window.
