Carolina Golfers Named To All-ACC Academic Golf Teams

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Three University of North Carolina men's golfers were named to the 2006 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men's Golf Team while one woman was selected to the 2006 All-ACC Academic Women's Golf Team.
Barden Berry, a sophomore from Kinston, N.C.; Chase MacFarland, a freshman from Savannah, Ga.; and Robert Riesen, a freshman from Pinehurst, N.C., were named to the men's team while freshman Sydney Crane, from Jamestown, N.C., was chosen to the women's squad.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his/her academic career.
The complete men's team consists of Boston College's James Granello, Kyle Kelly, Robert Reed and Ryan Sturma; Clemson's Martin Catalioto; Florida State's Jonas Blixt; Georgia Tech's Mike Barbosa, Roberto Castro, Taylor Hall and Kevin Larsen; North Carolina's Barden Berry, Chase MacFarland and Robert Riesen, Virginia's Conrad VonBorsig; and Virginia Tech's Jurrian van der Vaart, Carl Wakely and Drew Weaver.
The entire women's squad includes Boston College's Emily Cannon; Duke's Amanda Blumenherst and Anna Grzebien; Florida State's Whitney Brummett, Jaclyn Burch, Caroline Larsson and Caroline Westrup; Maryland's Kelly Calkin, Kelly MacWhinnie and Kathryn Trotter; Miami's Josie Shinn; North Carolina's Sydney Crane; NC State's Stephanie Derrey and Nancy Mountcastle; Virginia's Rachel Smith, Carly Truitt and Leah Wigger; and Wake Forest's Amanda Goins, Nannette Hill and Margaret Simons.
