Former Tar Heel Hovis Named Class A All-Star

DURHAM, N.C. - Former North Carolina reliever Jonathan Hovis was named a Low Class A All-Star by Baseball America in its most recent issue. The Charleston RiverDogs closer posted a 1.69 ERA over 64 innings and logged 30 saves. Additionally, the Gastonia native walled just 11 batters, while striking out 56.
Hovis was the lone relief pitcher named to the Low Class A All-Star squad. He was also a South Atlantic League All-Star in 2007. Hovis led the NCAA in ERA in 2006 and was an undrafted free agent signee by the Yankees.
