Post-game Quotes Roy Williams
Opening Statement:
"I was pleased with what we did defensively in the first half. In the second half I think we let them take too many uncontested shots, you don't like to see that the team shoots 57% for the half. For us, I thought we were really active defensively, particularly in the first half. We still did some good things, but not as consistently as we did in the first half. I like to see that five guys in double figures, but I talked to them at half time about the turnovers. We had 12 turnovers and 8 of them were from Deon, Tyler, and Alex. Those same three guys only had two in the second half, Alex had one and Tyler had one. You can't have eight out of twelve turnovers from the three big guys. We are more gifted, Kevin has a tough challenge he has a team that went 2-28 last year. He is a bright young man, he worked with Rick (Pitino) and his dad is a big time coach that nobody knows about. He is going to be fine, but he has a tough hand right now."
On half-court traps and press:
"We feel like that should be an advantage for us in this game. If you
watched us play Wednesday night, we didn't feel it was going to be a
big advantage for us so we didn't do it. We felt like we could get them
to turn it over. They weren't as proficient, shooting the three and
when you trap you also open people up for three-point shots and that is
what Davidson does extremely well. A lot of times when you double team
you create opportunities both ways."
On Tyler Hansbrough not returning after intentional foul:
"He's fine, there are four games in seven days. In fact, I started to
Danny out a little bit earlier because his ankle was bothering him a
little bit. Tyler had 26 minutes and that was the most, everybody else
looks like ten guys in double figures and that's what I would like to
have."
On patience and shot selection:
"I liked it and I think we missed some. We shot 50% percent for the
game and 10-24 from threes, which is too many. I don't like that, but
three were from the guys at the end of the game. Just because the other
team is playing zone doesn't mean you have to shoot the ball from the
outside. We talked about getting the ball inside to Tyler and Deon, and
I thought those guys did a nice job. We are not going to just stand out
there and shoot the ball just because somebody plays zone."
Tyler Hansbrough on opponents playing aggressive against him
"I think that tonight they came really aggressive. That may have been one of their game plans, I don't know. I know that it seemed like when the ball went up that there was extra attention coming and getting aggressive with me. It's not something that I necessarily like all the time but I can handle it well."
Deon Thompson on asserting himself more
"I think it was one of those things that was just bothering me. I couldn't even sleep after that Davidson game. I don't think that I even had a rebound in that Davidson game. I just wanted to come out aggressive."
Deon Thompson on teams focusing on Tyler Hansbrough
"It makes everybody's job easier because every team in the nation is going to focus on him and that is going to leave everybody else open for easier shots."
Marcus Ginyard on his collision at midcourt
"I honestly don't know, I just jumped up to catch the ball and there he was and next thing I know he's one the ground. People keep asking me what happened. I grabbed the ball and he fell down. I'll be waiting on the call from Butch (Davis) in a couple days and we'll take it from there."
Danny Green on scoring in double-figures both games
"I feel good, I feel confident. I feel like coach has more confidence in me than he did last year. It's a good feeling, it's always a good feeling. I didn't play as many minutes as I did the last couple of games because I didn't have to."
Wayne Ellington on teams playing zone against them and the effectiveness
"We are just confident, especially from the perimeter. We fell like if we get it inside they are going to collapse on our big men and we are going to be ready from the outside. That is something that we've been emphasizing and is something that we did tonight."
