Kinston, N.C. - Former Tar Heel All-America and current Dallas Mavericks star Jerry Stackhouse sponsored his family's annual Pre-Thanksgiving Celebration lunch and fed over 250 individuals in need on Wednesday, Nov. 21 in Kinston, N.C..
The late lunch, held at the House of Hope Free Will Baptist Church, included the traditional Thanksgiving favorites in a buffet that was mostly prepared by Phyliss Lofton, Rev. Minnie Stackhouse and others. In addition, Bojangles' Restaurant provided sponsorship by donating 5 gallons of sweet tea and 125 biscuits.
Stackhouse helped purchase the House of Hope Church for his mother, Pastor Minnie Stackhouse. While Stackhouse wasn't able to attend, his mother, father, other family members and friends helped serve the meal.
Stackhouse has sponsored this dinner for the past six years as a way to give back to his hometown. The event was designed to provide a hot meal for those who would not otherwise be able to enjoy the Thanksgiving experience.
