Former UNC Standout McCarty Playing In U-20 World Cup

CHANGSHA, China - Former Tar Heel men's soccer standout Dax McCarty was named the Sierra Mist Man of the Match in the U.S. Men's Under-23 National Team's scoreless tie with China Thursday at the Changsha He Long Sports Centre. The match is the first of two for the United States against China in preparation for CONCACAF Olympic qualifying, which will be held March 11-23, 2008, in Los Angeles, Tampa and Nashville. The eight-team tournament will send its two finalists to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Former Carolina teammate Michael Harrington is also a member of the squad and came off the bench in the 80th minute. The teams will play again Sunday in Guangzhou.
