•Carolina lost its sixth consecutive overtime game. The Tar Heels have not won an overtime game since beating Georgia Tech, March 1, 2000. Four of the six overtime losses have come at home.

• Tonight was Carolina¹s first overtime game since losing to Duke on Feb. 5, 2004.

•This was the first loss by the Tar Heels in 20 games this season when UNC led at the half.

•Zabian Dowdell made 28 of 34 free throws in the two games this season against the Tar Heels.

•In the two games this year, Virginia Tech has 32 points off turnovers and UNC has 19. Tonight the Hokies had 12 and the Tar Heels had six points off turnovers.

•Tonight was the 11th time this year and 24th time in his career Tyler Hansbrough scored 20 or more points. It was the fourth time in his career he made 14 free throws in a game (second time this year).

•Carolina tied its season-low with three three-point field goals made tonight. This was the fourth time this year UNC made three 3FGs, but it was the first time UNC lost a game when it made only three (others were Virginia, Clemson and Duke).

•Brandan Wright scored six points, only the third time this year he did not score in double figures.

•In the two games against Virginia Tech, the Tar Heels have shot 41 of 66 from the free throw line (62.1 percent).

•Dowdell¹s 33 points are the most by an opponent since Duke¹s JJ Redick had 35 on Feb. 7, 2006.
