Tar Heels Win At Temple, 14-6

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Christina Juras had three goals and three assists to lead seven scorers as the University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team (5-0) won 14-6 at Temple (2-0) on Sunday afternoon.
The Tar Heels, coming off a 13-7 win at Loyola (MD) on Friday afternoon, put seven players in the goal-scoring column led by Juras. Seniors Jess Allen and Chrissy Rude, junior Erica LaGrow and freshman Kristen Taylor each tallied two goals while freshman Megan Bosica scored one and added a game-high four assists.
North Carolina initiated the contest's scoring with two goals, separated by less than four minutes, from Allen and Rude. Frengs responded, and cut the Heels' lead in half with her first tally at the 21:06 mark. Nearly 11 minutes later and following Rude's second tally, Yori's goal at the 9:18 mark cut the North Carolina advantage to 3-2. The visitors ended the first frame and headed into the intermission with a 6-2 lead following three goals from Juras (2) and LaGrow.
Following two goals from North Carolina to start the second half, the Cherry and White would get as close as four goals, at 8-4, once more after Capaldo's first goal and Frengs' second strike with just over 21 minutes remaining.
The Tar Heels answered the Owls' call, with three tallies of their own from Taylor (2) and Juras, which pushed their cushion back to 11-4 with 15 minutes to play. Frengs' hat trick came at the 9:03 mark and was followed by the Cherry and White's final score from Cech, on a free position shot, with just under seven minutes remaining.
After being out-shot to the tune of 25-8 in the first half, the Owls responded in the final 30 minutes with 16 shots to the Heels' 19.
Temple junior Bridget McMullan logged 44 minutes of action and stopped 10 North Carolina shots before making way for freshman Jessica Colucci. In Colucci's Temple debut, the rookie allowed just two goals in just less than 16 minutes of action while making three saves.
North Carolina senior goalie Kristen Hordy ran the full 60 minutes en route to stopping 11 Temple shots.
Carolina will return to action on Saturday at Vanderbilt.
