CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Thanks to his outstanding credentials on the field and in the classroom, North Carolina sophomore right-hander Adam Warren was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III University Division Baseball Second Team Thursday, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced.
Warren, who owns a 3.41 grade point average, is in the midst of a breakout season for the Tar Heels. He is 9-0 with a 1.58 ERA over 51 1/3 innings and has not allowed a run over his last 14 2/3 innings, which includes shutout performances against Elon and East Carolina. The New Bern native has pitched in three combined shutouts and has 39 strikeouts to just 19 walks.
Warren is the first Tar Heel to earn academic all-district honors since Marshall Hubbard also claimed second-team honors in 2004. He is one of five Atlantic Coast Conference players to earn a spot on the two 11-members teams for District III, which were selected by CoSIDA members in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
