UNC Golfers Tied For 16th Place At NCAA Championship

The University of North Carolina women's golf team fired a 311 in the third round of the NCAA Championship for a 929 total and is tied for 16th place at LPGA International's Legends Course. Duke leads the field of 24 teams with an 880 while Purdue is just eight strokes back at 888.
The Tar Heels were led in the third round by senior Katie Miller, from Jeannette, Pa., who fired a three-over-par 75 for a 237 total and is tied for 87th place. Two Tar Heels, freshman Kate Thomas and junior Ann Laney, carded six-over 78s in Thursday's round. Thomas, from Bathurst, Australia, has a 228 total and is tied for 36th place while Laney, from Charlotte, N.C., has a 240 total and stands tied for 100th. Sydney Crane, a sophomore from Jamestown, N.C., posted an 80 for a 237 total and is tied with Miller for 87th while Lauren Hunt, a sophomore from Little River, S.C. posted an 82 for a 234 total and is tied for 73rd place.
Purdue fired the low round of the day, a three-over 291, to move up to second place. Second-round leader Duke maintained their spot at the top after carding a five-over 293 on Thursday. UCLA is in third place with an 893 total after posting a 299 in the third round. Georgia is in fourth place at 902 while Vanderbilt and Stanford are tied for fifth place with 903 totals. Two teams, Pepperdine and Southern California are deadlocked in seventh place with 905 totals while TCU is ninth at 906 and Louisville is 10th at 910.
Christel Boeljon of Purdue leads all individuals after firing a second consecutive three-under 69 for a six-under 210 total after three rounds. Paola Moreno of Southern California is five strokes back in second place at one-under 215 after carding a two-under 70 on Thursday. Stacy Lewis of Arkansas is in third place at even par 216 while three players are tied for fourth place with 217 totals - Duke's Amanda Blumenherst, Vanderbilt's Jacqui Concolino and TCU's Catherine Matranga. Tiffany Joh of UCLA is seventh at 219 while another three players are tied for eighth place with 220 totals - Pepperdine's Misun Cho, Duke's Jennie Lee and Stanford's Lauren Todd.
The final round of the 72-hole event will be played Friday at the LPGA International, Legends Course, which features a par 72, 6,351-yard layout. Complete results and live scoring throughout the event are available on TarHeelBlue.com or Golfstat.com.
