Fedroff Leads Balanced Attack Past State, 14-5

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - North Carolina's Tim Fedroff had four hits and scored three times to power a 19-hit attack and lead the Tar Heels to a 14-5 win over North Carolina State in the Atlantic Coast Conference aseball Championship.
The start of the game was delayed an hour and 40 minutes by rain and the 3-hour, 5-minute contest that started on Thursday did not finish until 1:15 a.m. Friday morning.
North Carolina (46-12, 21-9) will meet Virginia on Saturday, with the winner moving on to Sunday's championship game as the Bracket B winner.
The visiting Tar Heels scored at least one run in seven innings and used a 4-run fifth inning to increase its 3-2 lead at the time. Dustin Ackley started the rally with a double and Josh Horton and Chad Flack had singles to produce one run. The Wolfpack then aided the Tar Heels big inning by committing three errors to allow three unearned runs.
Fedroff singled in the second, seventh and eighth innings and added an RBI-double in the ninth. He also reached base when he was hit by a pitch. The Tar Heels outfielder was only retired once in six at-bats when he grounded out in the fifth inning.
Ackley, Horton and Chad Flack all had three hits each for the Tar Heels. Every position player had at least one RBI except Tim Federowicz and Kyle Seager.
Robert Woodard went 7 2/3 innings, allowing five runs and nine hits and earned his ninth win of the year against two defeats.
North Carolina State (36-21, 16-14) was led by Marcus Jones and Ramon Corona who each had two of the home team's 10 hits.
