Game 2 Quotes: Mississippi State vs. North Carolina
Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha, Neb.
Friday, June 15, 2007
Mississippi State Head Coach Ron Polk
(opening statement): "Their bullpen was the difference. They have strong arms. We got their ace out early but we found holes and got the lead at that point. Then, the thought was to expand the lead. They have an extraordinary bullpen and it showed today."
(on North Carolina's comeback success): "It is a sign of a good ball club and it shows. Look at their bullpen and it is indicative of a good team. Not just offensively, but they can do it all. I'm not disappointed in our ball club, I am just disappointed in one play."
"When you play a team like North Carolina that is ranked in the top five nationally, you have to make plays and pitch well. The depth of their bullpen shows the depth of their team."
Mississippi State RF Mitch Moreland
(on his homerun): "It was a fastball and I got behind in the count. I was looking for a pitch over the plate. I got it, it went."
Mississippi State C Edward Easley
(on North Carolina playing big innings): "They are the kind of club we are. They got some runs early and we didn't. They kept pounding in runs and they did a good job coming back."
Mississippi State LHP Justin Pigott
(on what he did good/bad): "My changeup was good at times. My slider was good at times. I tried to get ahead and I feel I could have gotten ahead more. Just getting behind in the count and then they got runs early and that made a difference."
North Carolina Head Coach Mike Fox
(opening statement): "I thought the key to the game was Adam (Warren) out of the bullpen. When you get in the hole early, you want to hold the other team down and try to cut into the lead. Once again we were able to come from behind. Not sure how long we will be able to do it. Hopefully until the 2008 season. We're fortunate that we have a group that doesn't give up. Pitching and defense usually gets you where you want to be, and it certainly did tonight."
(about Robert Woodard's struggles tonight): "Robert will be fine. The good thing is he will be available for Sunday now. He missed on some pitches and they're a good offensive team. There's a fine line with him. He has to hit his spots."
North Carolina DH Benji Johnson
(about the comeback): "We're a mature team. We have a lot of experience with the World Series last year. We have a lot of veterans in the field. It's a credit to our coaching staff. We have learned to have confidence in ourselves all the time."
North Carolina 3B Chad Flack
(about lack of offense): "As long as we're winning, we don't care. We're not going to live and die by the home run."
North Carolina P Adam Warren
(about his pitching performance): "I was able to locate my fastball, which helped me to get ahead. I also threw a cutter/slider and got some swings and misses on that."
