Game 11 Quotes: North Carolina vs. Rice
Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha, Neb.
Wednesday, June 20, 2007
North Carolina Head Coach Mike Fox
(opening statement): "I've been fortunate to coach a lot of players and no one has the heart of Robert Woodard. My hat is off to him. The last two games we've gotten good starting pitching. It was all about Robert (Woodard). He has as much pride in his performance as anyone I know. He regroups between pitches and innings. We had the right person, as well as pitcher, on the mound today. The two double play balls in the 4th and 7th innings were huge. Dusty (Ackley) picked a good time to break out of it. It was a big swing of the bat by Dusty and Chad (Flack)."
(about both teams facing elimination game tomorrow): "Some people would say we have the advantage. We're coming off a win and the home team. You throw that all out the window after the first pitch. It's all about performance."
(about whether he would move up Dustin Ackley in the batting order tomorrow): "I might consider it. He did all right in the seventh hole. We wouldn't be here without the year Dustin Ackley had. I'm glad he was up there when he was today."
North Carolina P Robert Woodard
(about pitching performance today): "Coach Forbes and I worked very hard in the days between then and now to prep for today. I was chopping at the bit to get back out there. I was very fortunate that things went the way they did today."
North Carolina 1B Dustin Ackley
(about his performance): "I think I have the same mindset every game. I just hit the ball today. I put some good swings on the ball. I talked to the coaches about some mechanical things I wasn't doing."
Rice Head Coach Wayne Graham
(opening statement): "I thought North Carolina pitched and played well. It's one of those situations where we got out played. We'll show up tomorrow."
"They (North Carolina) came here to win a national championship and so did we. They have to win one more game to get into the championship and so do we."
(about Ryan Berry's performance): "I thought he had great stuff. He did give up some walks and we had two errors. He was throwing the hardest I've ever seen him throw today."
Rice 1B Joe Savery
(about Robert Woodard): "Today, I thought he had some of the best stuff I've ever seen from him. He was pitching me low and away and no one can hit low and away. Barry Bonds can't even hit low and away very well."
Rice SS Brian Friday
(about dropping a routine fly ball): "I've never worn sunglasses or eye black in the field and I won't ever wear it. I just didn't shield the ball well."
