CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - With the start of the 2007 season just a day away, North Carolina senior defender Andre Sherard continues to add preseason accolades, as he claimed a spot on Soccer America's Preseason All-America squad Thursday.
The Greenville native is one of six defenders on the 23-man squad, which features eight players from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Sherard, who has started 63 of a possible 65 games over the last three seasons and has led UNC to 29 shutouts over this stretch, is a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection and a two-time member of the NSCAA/adidas All-South Region squad.
Sherard is also on the preseason watch list for the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy and was named a preseason All-America by College Soccer News.
The Tar Heels open the 2007 season Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Monmouth in the Carolina Nike Classic at Fetzer Field.
