UNC Breaks Ground On Boshamer

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina and its baseball program kicked off the renovation and construction of the new Boshamer Stadium Saturday with an official groundbreaking ceremony on the field at the current facility. Hosted by the Rams Club, the event drew a crowd of more than 300 supporters.
Jones Angell of the Tar Heel Sports Network served as emcee of the program, which featured remarks from UNC chancellor James Moeser, director of athletics Dick Baddour, head coach Mike Fox and former letterwinner Vaughn Bryson, for whom the new playing surface will be named.
In 2009, the new Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium, which will be built in the same footprint as the existing field, will feature more than 4,000 chair-back seats, premium seating, a wider concourse and new restrooms and concessions. Fans will also be able to enjoy a Hall of Honor celebrating the success of Carolina baseball through the years.
The Diamond Heels will have use of brand new team facilities as well, including a 1,500-square foot clubhouse, a 2,600-square foot weight room with adjoining training room. The facility will also feature an indoor/outdoor hitting and pitching practice facility.
The upper deck of the new stadium will feature offices for the coaching staff, as well as a new press box with separate television and radio booths. Club level suites will be available for lease.
While the facility is being constructed, the Tar Heels will spend the 2008 season playing on the on the Stadium Field at the new USA Baseball National Training Complex at Cary's Thomas Brooks Park Cary.
