North Carolina vs. NC State Postgame Notes, Jan. 12, 2008
With today's 93-62 win, Carolina has scored 90 or more points in SEVEN CONSECUTIVE GAMES (and eight of nine) for the first time in school history...the Tar Heels previously has scored 90 or more points in six straight games in two previous seasons (2004-05 and 1985-86).
The seven consecutive 90-point games include:
105 vs. UC Santa Barbara
106 vs. Nevada
90 vs. Valparaiso
90 vs. Kent State
90 at Clemson
93 vs. UNC Asheville
93 vs. NC State
The 31 point margin of victory is the largest by Carolina against the Wolfpack since a 104-58 win on Feb. 6, 1993.
Danny Green had 13 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and four blocks. He posted his second career double-double (UNC Asheville in 2005-06), set a career high for rebounds (previous 11), matched his career high in blocks and was one shy of his career high in assists.
Ty Lawson set a career high with four three-pointers.
Deon Thompson set a career high with 16 points (previous 14 last year vs. Georgetown and Arizona).
Tyler Hansbrough posted his ninth double-double this year and 25th of his career.
Hansbrough went 7 for 8 from the free throw line and is now 564 for 736 in his career. He passed four all-time ACC legends today in free throws made - Duke's Art Heyman and Grant Hill (both hade 558) and Carolina's Phil Ford (560) and Sam Perkins (561). Hansbrough is now tied for 14th place in ACC history with Duke's Jim Spanarkel.
Hansbrough has 1,647 career points, 17th in Carolina history. He moved past Kenny Smith today (1,636).
Wayne Ellington went 4 for 4 from the line today and is 101 for 116 in his career. That is a percentage of .872, the best in Carolina history for players with at least 100 makes. He leads Shammond Williams (.849).
Alex Stepheson scored eight points, the most he has scored in his career in an ACC game.
Quentin Thomas had four points and four assists and no turnovers in a season-high 14 minutes.
Roy Williams is now 14-1 against NC State as a head coach, including 9-1 at Carolina.
The Tar Heels are 17-0 for the first time since 1997-98.
The 13 points allowed by UNC in the first half of today's game against NC State are the fewest allowed in a half since Virginia scored 12 in the second half on Feb. 11, 1998. Carolina won that game in Charlottesville, 60-45. UNC out-scored the Cavaliers, 34-12, in the second half of that game.
Virginia's 12-point outing in 1998 was the fewest allowed by UNC since Duke scored seven in the first half and led 7-0 at Duke in 1979.
Thus, today's 13 points marks the second-fewest points allowed in a half in the last 29 years.
