Tar Heels, Terps Meet Again In ACC Quarterfinals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Just five days after meeting in the regular season finale, No. 24 North Carolina and No. 4 Maryland will meet in the first of four quarterfinal matches at noon Wednesday in the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Championship at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. A webcast of the key match will air live and on-demand through ACC Select.
The Tar Heels (11-6-1, 3-5-0 ACC) are seeded seventh in the tournament, while the Terrapins (15-3-0, 6-2-0 ACC) are seeded second. The winner between Carolina and Maryland will face either No. 3 seed Boston College or No. 6 Clemson at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 4 Virginia and No. 5 Duke comprise the other side of the bracket. No. 8 NC State and No. 9 Virginia Tech open the tournament at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the winner advancing to face the top-ranked Demon Deacons.
In the Nov. 7 meeting between the Tar Heels and Terps, Carolina struck first on a Cameron Brown goal, but Maryland came back with two scores late the first half to take a 2-1 victory. The teams have not met in the ACC tourney since a 4-2 Terp win in the 2004 semifinals.
