DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina juniors Alex White, Dustin Ackley and Kyle Seager each earned a spot on Baseball America's list of the top 100 college prospects for the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, which was released Tuesday. With White ranked No. 2 and Ackley at No. 4, the Tar Heels are the only squad with two of the nation's top 10 collegiate prospects. Seager checks in at No. 53.
All three players earned All-America honors a year ago. White, the 2008 ACC Pitcher of the Year, went 13-3 with a 2.83 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 101 2/3 innings.
Ackley hit .417 with a school-record 82 runs scored, 51 RBI and 32 extra-base hits, while Seager batted .347 with 75 RBI, a UNC-record 30 doubles and nine home runs in 2008.
The Tar Heels conclude fall practice with the final game of the Fall World Series Wednesday at Cary's USA Baseball National Training Complex.
