North Carolina Head Coach Roy Williams
Opening Statement...
"It makes our coaching staff feel very good because we need some practice time. We feel happy about the win, but it was probably the least efficient we have been all year. I think you have to congratulate Oral Roberts because they kept coming at us. Jarvis made a bunch of shots and I think their post players played well and did some things we did not want to do. We were not sharp at all. We were not very good defensively at all. I think it is the first time this year we have been out rebounded. I know it is the first time this year that the margin has been more than one or two. I guess we should have expected it. The last nine days we have had two practices and taken a lot of exams. I was not pleased at all with what we did on the backboards or on the defense of end. We were just more gifted, playing at home and won the game for those reasons. Again I think you have to congratulate Oral Roberts to outscore us in the second half. Not good news to me to give up 50 points in the second half. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we have to get back and go to work. I have been pleased with what we have done defensively on the floor, but not tonight so we have got to get back and go to work."
On Danny Green's laceration to his head...
"He got five stitches. Should not stop him from playing Thursday. He should be able to practice Monday, I don't give a darn about the game Thursday."
On Tyler Hansbrough's career...
"He is not back to 100 percent and is probably the least conditioned I have seen the youngster in my entire life.
Oral Roberts Head Coach Scott Sutton
On Playing Before Such a Large Crowd
"I'm proud of the guys. I thought they really competed. You get down 20 points on these guys, and they're not going to let up. I thought the guys battled; I thought they really competed throughout the whole game. I'm a little disappointed because obviously we didn't come out of here with a win, but I think we played pretty well. The bottom line is you dig yourself a hole by halftime and you turn the ball over 16 times. You put yourselves in a position where you're down 10 or 12 points at half and you have a chance to come back."
On Playing Better in the Second Half
"You cut down on turnovers, number one. I thought we did a better job after the first four or five minutes of the second half we did a better job of making them work a little bit on offense. I think the first shots they hit in the second half were layups. And after that I thought we made a couple nice runs, we made some shots. It comes down to they just battled and competed. Obviously they scored a lot of points and Tyler [Hansbrough] played well. Those guys are so talented and so big that it got us in foul trouble."
UNC's Deon Thompson
On Playing First Game After a Long Break
"It's been so long since we actually played a game. So, it took us a little time to get it going and at times we were sloppy out there. We definitely didn't rebound the ball and we got out-rebounded so Coach [Williams] wasn't too happy about that as well. So there are some things that Coach is going to emphasize at the next practice."
On Anticipating Getting Back into the Groove of Playing Games
"We were more excited for practice yesterday before this game today. Just enthused and into it and screaming and yelling and having fun."
UNC's Ty Lawson
On Danny Green
"I feel like he is more aggressive and gives us more scoring. He gets a lot of blocked shots. He does a lot being a starter. He gives a lot of energy early in the game. He's probably going to get it next game. We are very aware and are getting him the ball a lot more."
UNC's Bobby Frasor
On the Game
"We didn't have the energy that we normally do in games. They killed us on the boards. There were a lot of things that didn't go well. That's not acceptable the way that we played defensively for them to shoot that well and score that many points in the second half against a big-time team and we're going to get punished for that. We need to be sharper so Coach is excited about practicing Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday because we need to get better."
On Hansbrough Approaching the UNC Career Scoring Record
"It's amazing in my eyes. The way that he works he deserves everything that he gets. If I was a betting man I'd say it's a free-throw [the shot on which he would break the record]."
