GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's two leading scorers, sophomore forward Bill Dworsky and junior midfielder Michael Callahan were each named to the All-ACC Academic Men's Soccer Team announced Thursday by Commissioner John D. Swofford. All nine schools in the league competing in men's soccer are represented on the third annual All-ACC Academic team.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
North Carolina's leading scorer on the soccer field and a 4.0 student in the classroom, Dworsky was picked for the team for the second straight season. Earlier this year, he was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team and the Academic All-District III squad by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
A native of Huntsville, Ala., Dworsky finished the season as Carolina's leading scorer with 17 points on six goals and five assists. He saw action in all 20 games for the Tar Heels and started 17. Dworsky had a pair of multi-goal games on the year with two each in wins over Akron and Clemson.
An economics major, Callahan finished the 2007 season with nine points on two goals and five assists. He shared the team lead in assists and finished second in points. The Cary native was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team and is a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Callahan also picked up the 2007-08 Athletic Director's Scholar-Athlete Award for men's soccer last week.
