Game One: #1 North Carolina vs. #9 Florida State
North Carolina Quotes
Head Coach Roy Williams
Opening Statement:
"We're happy to be here another day, there is no question about that. We were more aggressive offensively in the second half than we were in the first half. We settled too much for outside jump shots in the first half as opposed to getting the ball inside by dribble or pass. We had a stretch of about six to seven minutes in the second half where we were really good defensively, and other than that I thought Florida State's offense won that battle against our defense. We feel good about being here and still playing and that's what you have got to do in tournament time."
On containing Jason Rich:
"We played better defense. I think Marcus (Ginyard) is really good defensively and we paid more attention to him and did a better job of going over the top of the screens and not letting him split (the screens) and drive down the middle."
On the play of UNC's guards:
"We've got to a point in the last week or so where Ty (Lawson) has been able to practice. (Quentin Thomas) has so much more confidence now. We have been splitting the time and repetitions during practice in the last week and I think that it helps. There shouldn't be any up and down peaks and valleys when you make substitutions because we do switch lineups every day in practice. Ten turnovers, I'll take that. We try to play at a fast pace, so you are going to have those. Whether it is as smooth as I want, I don't think it is ever going to get there."
Tyler Hansbrough
On the focus of getting to the foul line:
"I wasn't really focused on it. If I get the ball inside the way we attack, I think it just happens. It's not a situation where I constantly try to get fouled. It is just something that happens."
On being physical against Florida State:
"We knew they were going to be aggressive. We've played them twice before so we've prepared for it. It's not something new to us. A lot of other teams play that way, so I think we just came out knowing what they were going to do."
Wayne Ellington
On his aggressiveness in the getting to the basket:
"In the first half, we kind of took a lot of outside shots and didn't really get the ball inside, and weren't as aggressive as we like to be. In the second half, I tried to focus more on getting in the lane and making some plays."
