Funderburk Takes Another Top 10 Finish

AUBURN, ALA. - Senior Ryan Funderburk of the University of North Carolina men's diving team earned his second straight Top 10 finish Saturday at the 2008 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at Auburn University. Carolina senior Erika Matheis was also a championship finalist for the second successive day.
Ten men and ten women will qualify for the NCAA Championships from this weekend's zone diving meet. Funderburk finished seventh Friday in the men's three-meter diving and he came back Saturday to place 10th in men's one-meter diving. He qualified in ninth place in the preliminaries with a score of 314.80 points, then added a score of 312.60 in the finals to finish 10th overall with a score of 627.40.
Sophomore David Solarz was 34th on the one-meter board in men's diving with a score of 243.05.
On the women's side, senior Erika Matheis finished 12th overall in women's three-meter diving. She had a preliminary score of 262.25 for the 15th best score but then upped her score total in the final to 275.85, giving her 538.50 on the day and moving her into the No. 12 spot.
Senior Laura Filip finished 21st on the three-meter board with a score of 252.60 and junior Erica Schiffler was 30th with a final total of 229.15.
The meet concludes Sunday with 10-meter platform diving for both men and women.
