CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Senior Cassie Palmer was named the ACC Co-Player of the Week for the period ending April 13 as she lead to the No. 15 Tar Heels to a 4-1 record. Palmer went 11 for 18 at the dish with a team-high eight RBIs as the 2008 Tar Heels became the ninth team in school history to reach the 40-win plateau. Carolina will host Coastal Carolina in a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday before playing host to rival NC State over the weekend.
Palmer, a senior from Weddington, N.C., went 11 for 18 in five North Carolina games last week. In a midweek doubleheader against Charlotte, she recorded three hits and two RBIs as the Tar Heels picked up their 37th win of the season. At Virginia over the weekend, Palmer was even better, belting seven total hits, including four doubles and a home run, and six RBIs in a three game sweep of the Wahoos. Now the all-time leader in at-bats (731) and runs scored (160) at UNC, Palmer ranks second in the ACC this season in both doubles and RBIs.
Palmer shared the weekly honor with NC State's Shanna Smith.
