Syracuse, N.Y. - Katie Rowan had two goals and four assists and Christina Dove had three goals and two assists as fifth-seeded Syracuse defeated unseeded North Carolina, 13-11, on Saturday afternoon in the Carrier Dome in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. The Orange gathered 11 of 15 second-half draw controls to help provide the winning margin in a back-and-forth contest.
With the victory, its 11th in a row, Syracuse improves to 18-2 this season and advances to next weekend's NCAA Final Four in Towson, Md. Carolina falls to 13-7 and sees its season come to a close.
"Congratulations to Syracuse on a great win," UNC head coach Jenny Levy said afterward. "You saw two teams really going after it today. Unfortunately, someone has to win and someone has to lose. We had to end our season a little earlier than we'd like, but my team was playing its best at the end of the season and I'm proud of them."
For the Tar Heels, Megan Bosica scored four second-half goals and Kristen Taylor had two goals and an assist in the contest. Julia Ryan scored twice for UNC, with Meg Freshwater, Corey Donohoe and Jenn Russell each adding single goals.
The Orange struck first, with Kristin Brady scoring at 25:58 from the center, just inside the eight-meter arc off a pass from Rowan. Megan Mosenson followed with an unassisted goal at the 22:36 mark to make it 2-0 Syracuse and force an early Tar Heel timeout.
UNC's Freshwater responded with an unassisted goal at 21:12, bringing the ball up the field after a Syracuse turnover, circling to the left of the cage and cutting into the middle to score and make it 2-1. Donohoe tied the score at 2-2 at the 18:06 mark, intercepting a pass in the UNC defensive half of the field and taking it in for the unassisted score.

The Orange made it 4-2 less than 30 seconds later when Halley Quillinan took a pass from Dove and scored with 14:37 left before the break. Dove made it 5-2 with a free position goal from the top of the eight-meter arc with 13:24 left in the opening half.
